Gujarat Vidhansabha, Gandhinagar.

Press Note:                                                                  05.01.2010

  • Multi million rupee scandal in the name of oil and gas exploration
  • Even after spending Rs 4933.50 crore not even five percent yield of oil or gas
  • GSPC has become a tool for siphoning off millions of rupees.
  • Not a single paise of Rs 4933.50 crore loan repaid
  • Of 51 blocks, oil and gas has been found in 13 only. GSPC is not able to say anything about future activity of these blocks
  • Facts and figures under the RTI expose tall claims of rich finds of oil and gas made by the Chief Minister

Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation has squandered Rs4933.50 crore from public money and has not got oil and gas worth even five per cent of it. Gujarat government has made the GSPC a tool for billion rupee corruption.

Making these startling revelations Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly, Shaktisinh Gohil said that till March 2009, GSPC took whooping loan of Rs4933.50 crore, but did not repay even a single paise. On the other hand, he said, Chief Minister made tall misleading claims of bonanza of oil and gas to the state owned company GSPC.

On the contrary, facts and figures supplied by officers of the BJP ruled government under the RTI show that because of rampant corruption and ill planning the state has not got even five per cent return, he pointed out. He provided to media necessary documents confirming the corrupt design.

Against the expenditure of Rs4933.50 crore so far, the state has got return of a meager Rs 297 crore. Of this sale of gas brought Rs 199 crore and that of oil just Rs 98 crore. Tall claims of rich finds of oil and gas by Gujarat government have been exposed by its own administration under the RTI.

Information under the RTI reveals that of the 51 blocks only 13 had oil and gas and nothing could be said about recovery from these fields in the next three years. This makes it amply clear that Chief Minister had misled people by making tall and false claims.

If we look at the reserves found till March 2009, it is only 10.66 MmBL of oil and 28.72 bef of gas. This shows that lot of money has been spent, but Gujarat has not made any substantial gains. Hydrocarbon Directorate has also not confirmed the claims of Gujarat government, he said.

GSPC has entered into agreement with Geo global with the tender process. Gujarat government should come out with a white paper on this tie up, Gohil has demanded.
