·        SHAKTISINH GOHIL SLAMS MODI on CLIMATE CHANGE and TERRORISM

The Congress has never compromised with its basic principles of secularism and balanced inclusive growth, Congress Legislative Party Leader Shaktisinh Gohil said in his address at the AICC Plenary Session in New Delhi on Sunday.

Unlike the BJP which was bothered about the well being and progress of a selective few, the Congress consistently endeavored to ensure that the gap between the rich and the poor is bridged.

In a scathing attack on Gujarat Chief minister Narendra Modi, Mr Gohil said it is an irony that on one hand the Gujarat chief Minister pens a book on climate change and creates a hype and on other hand he has parceled out the entire coastline of Gujarat to a handful of industrialists at the cost of lacs of fishermen. Mr Gohil was referring to the fight fishermen in Kutch are waging against the power Adani group which is developing a port and SEZ in Mundra displacing livelihood of thousands of fisher folk.

Fishermen in Gujarat are forced to venture into territorial waters of Pakistan to find a good catch of fish because they cannot do so in their local waters which stands completely polluted due to Mr Modi’s mindless and flawed industrialization.

“Industrialization in my region, Gujarat is not balanced but skewed in favour of a motley group of traders and corporates’, he said. He also hit out at the double standards of BJP on the issue of terrorism. He said no BJP leader has ever sacrificed their life for the cause of national integrity or terrorism. The BJP’s politics of polarization has induced terrorism in the country. He said Congressman like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel had understood the poisonous ideology of RSS and had hence banned it. These ideology has taken the life of Mahatma Gandhi and even in the present context continues to divide the country.
