Press Note Date 24/07/2010 ENG

OFFICE OF THE LEADER OF OPPOSITION

Gujarat Vidhansabha, Gandhinagar.

Press Note Dt. 24-07-2010

  • CBI investigations in Gujarat are under Supreme Court orders. Congress or Central government has nothing to do with it.
  • If anything wrong is being done, then why BJP is not approaching SC.
  • BJP is worried because the CBI investigations are going in right direction.
  • At the time of the murder of BJP leader Haren Pandya, L K Advani had said that CBI was impartial and intelligence agency.
  • Gujarat government itself has admitted before the SC the fact of fake encounter of Sohrabuddin. It had said that he was a petty criminal and not a terrorist.
  • If Amit Shah is innocent, then he should have appeared before the CBI. He should establish himself as innocent through judicial process.
  • Everyone knows that the report of the investigations is to go before the Supreme Court. In such a situation, why is Chief Minister indulging in mudslinging. It is the responsibility of Gujarat government to bring a criminal to the court.
  • It is also the duty of the Gujarat government to bring to halt the journey of crime in the state.
  • It is shameful that Gujarat Chief Minister is instigating people instead of posing faith in the court of law.
  • Despite number of misleading campaigns of BJP, people of Gujarat have maintained peace. They deserve compliments for this.

CBI investigations in Gujarat are under Supreme Court orders. Congress or Central government has nothing to do with it. If anything wrong is being done, then Gujarat Chief Minister or Amit Shah should approach SC. This is an indisputable fact, Leader of Opposition Shaktisinh Gohil said today. Still, the issue is being politicized and allegations are made against Congress and the central government in a manner that shows contempt for the Supreme Court. It is very shameful, they said. In this case Gujarat government is a party in the Supreme Court and in such a situation it should approach the court. However, BJP is indulging in political allegations which show that the investigations were going in right direction and there was no substance in the BJP allegations.

They said that Chief Minister should not spread lies as he was occupying a responsible position and as per the Constitution of India it is the duty of the Court to decide what is right and what is wrong. Instead of shielding a person charged with serious offence of murder, he should help the process of Justice. Resignation is not enough, Amit Shah should appear before the CBI.

It is the constitutional obligation of Gujarat government to help process of law and investigation. At a time when a SC ordered investigation has exposed a criminal network operated by Home Minister, it is binding on the state government to maintain law and order in the State and hand over such criminals to the Court. If anything is wrong then he should have faith in the law and approach the Court. However, he is trying to mislead people and threatening to take matter to the streets. This is an insult of democracy.

Gujarat government itself has admitted before the SC fake encounter had taken place in Gujarat. People killed in encounters were petty criminals and not terrorists. Police had killed them for name and fame. After making such a statement on affidavit, CM is now talking opposite on the issue. This is an insult of Gujarat

Supreme Court had given many opportunities to Gujarat government. However, after several Action Taken Reports, court suspected that something was concealed. And it ordered CBI investigations into the matter. Now when CBI is going into right direction, BJP is making baseless allegations against the central government and Congress.

BJP which talks about good conduct and character is trying to shield serious offenders which shows its real face.

Leader of Opposition Shaktisinh Gohil said that despite number of misleading campaigns of BJP, people of Gujarat have maintained peace. They deserve compliments for this. At a time when offenders are to be punished, Chief Minister is threatening agitation to save criminals. People of the land of Mahatma will never support it.

When the investigations into the murder of BJP Leader Haren Pandya were handed over to the CBI, the then Union Home Minister L K Advani had said that CBI was independent and intelligence agency. None can interfere in its work. Advani had given certificate to the CBI during NDA rule and the constitution of the CBI is the same. Now when investigation is leading in right direction, why BJP is making allegations against CBI, they questioned.
