OFFICE OF THE LEADER OF OPPOSITION
Gujarat Vidhansabha, Gandhinagar.
================================================
Press Note Dt. 30-01-2010
- All should jointly act for the growth of Bhavnagar
- Government has done nothing for the growth of Bhavnagar in the last ten years.
- There is nothing new in Garib Kalyan Yojna. People are made to wait for hours and listen dull and drab speeches of Chief Minister for the money they should have got, delivered at their home
- Kalpsar and Dholera projects were contradictory. CM is making misleading statements about these projects.
BJP led Gujarat government is blatantly ignoring the development of Bhavnagar for the last ten years. Describing this as an unfortunate development, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Shri Shaktisinh Gohil urged that leaders of all political parties should unitedly work for the growth of Bhavnagar. Shri Gohil, Congress MLA representing Bhavnagar South, was interacting with the media during his extensive tour of his constituency.
He said that MOUs by the government were just paper exercises without any real progress and there was nothing like balanced growth in the government plans. Referring to the much publicised Kalpsar Project, Shri Gohil said that even its feasibility report was not prepared till the date. He said that the Chief Minister was also talking about Dholera port. He dubbed the two announcements as misleading pointing out that the two could not coexist.
He said that government’s plan to benefit builder lobby by giving away Victoria Park and land of Boat Talav could be checked only by powerful public agitation. There should be all party pressure on the government to move review petition in the Supreme Court in this matter.
On the other hand, he said, his Congress party led UPA government at the Centre was taking up projects for the development of Bhavnagar. Giving an example, he said that permission had been granted for the four lane Ahmedabad route. Similarly, he said, permission had been given for widening of Bhavnagar-Rajkot route. He said that the work on khadi bridge linking Bhavnagar with Bhal was taken up by the state government only after Congress raised the issue in the State Assembly.
Despite repeated demand for Narmada waters for Bhavnagar and other parts of Saurashtra and Kutch, nothing had been done in that direction. Garib Kalyan Yojna was a new publicity gimmick in which lakhs were spent on the publicity of Modi. At the same time poor widows were running from pillar to post to get their pension.
He said that corruption was rampant in the government as Rs. 4933 crore were siphoned from GSPC for party funds. He said that Gujarat had highest rate of VAT and government had now added Service Tax on it which was pushing prices up.
