Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly, Shaktisinh Gohil today said that the state government was negligent about the welfare of tribal’s while it was squandering billions to promote the interest of some favoured businessmen and industrialists. He said that this was exposed in the reply of question number six in the question hour. The question was about poor matric scholarship for tribal students.
He said that the benefit of the scheme could not reach tribal students in 2008 – 2009 just because of criminal negligence of the government. The government blamed it on the central government saying that Gujarat government received the circular of the scholarship late.
However tribal MLA’s of Congress showed the government circular which exposed the lie of the government. The circular said that the scheme would be implemented from 2008 – 2009. This was issued on 01/08/2009. But the government issued another circular19/02/2011 which said that the scheme would be implemented from 2009 – 2010 instead of 2008 – 2009. Thus the government deprived tribal students of the benefit of scholarship for one year, he said. State Government is labelling Central schemes as his own to play politics of vote and doing injustice to tribal’s, he said. He also gave copies of there circulars to media.
