OFFICE OF THE FORMER LEADER OF OPPOSITION

Gandhinagar.

Press Note                                                                 04th February, 2013

Double Faced Gujarat CM Narendra Modi.

The BJP and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has been vociferously protesting against the LokPal Bill and its modalities. But when it comes to Gujarat Lokayukta and its appointment, the Gujarat Government has endorsed the modalites of Lokpal Bill.  In the review petition of the Lokayukta issue filled by the Gujarat Government in the Supreme Court, the Narendra Modi government applauds and deems reasonable the very same modalities which they have been criticising for the Lokpal. Former CLP leader and senior Congressman Shaktisinh Gohil exposed the dual face and double speak of Narendra Modi by distributing the review petition copy that Gujarat government has filed in the Supreme Court in the Lokayukta issue.  The Narendra Modi government has contended and termed as “proper and right”  the modalities and process of Lokpal appointment. They have done so in civil appeal 8814 – 8815 / 2012 review petition. Shaktisinh Gohil said ” While contending on the grounds of Lokayukta appointment, Chief Minister Narendra Modi in section  F of the review petition has said the clause 4 structured by the Union Cabinet and Selection Committee for appointment of Lokayukta is totally fair, proper and reasonable”. Ironically, this is exactly what the BJP has been protesting at the Central level with regards to Lokpal.  In ground g of the review petition Chief Minister Modi has said that appointments of Lokpal is the right of the Prime Minister and such appointment should be the privilege of the elected government and the Prime Minister. Ironically, this exactly was contested by the BJP at Central Level.
Gohil said the review petition tries to justify that the appointment of Lokayukta is completely the prerogative of the elected government and the Chief Minister without realising that  Lokayukta is supposed to probe ministerial and political leaders and others those in power in the State and what would be the credibility of a Lokayukta who investigates into the Chief Minister and his government if the Lokayukta is appointed by the Chief Minister himself?
Asserting that the review petition has no strong grounds and is simply a shallow effort to furthur stall the appointment of Lokayukta in Gujarat, Shaktisinh Gohil said, Chief Minister Narendra Modi has so far squandered crores of rupees of the money of Gujarat’s public who pay taxes in trying to stall the Lokayukta appointment. If Modi who claims to be clean and non corrupt, actually clean and non corrupt, why is he scared of appointing a Lokayukta in Gujarat? Also, by indulging in double speak and maintaing a dual face, Narendra Modi stands exposed now on the Lokpal and Lokayukta issue.
