  • Instead of increase the length of national highways in Gujarat has been  reduced from 2382 kms to 2354 kms in 2003-04 during the five years of NDA rule.
  • During the UPA rule the length of national highways increased at a great speed from 2354 kms to 3245 kms in 2008-09.

Leader of opposition in the State Assembly Shaktisinh Gohil has said that the Gujarat Chief Minister has anti poor, tribal and dalit mindset. He is concerned about few billionaires only and has done nothing for poor and dalits. Gohil said that congress at the centre gave rights to tribal and others on forest land, but BJP ruled state government has not given these rights of land to these people. He was addressing a meeting of workers, booth incharges and local leaders of Bhiloda and Himmatnagar Assembly segments of Sabarkantha district.

Hesaidthat thegovernmentwasnotconcernedaboutqualityeducationtopeople ofGujarat. This isalso clearfromthefactthatGujarathas the lowest budgetaryallocationin the countryin terms ofshareof thetotalbudget. In the past anyone couldpursuemedicalorengineeringeducation. However, nowprofessionaleducationhas become a dreamforpoor.

He citedexampleof a poorstudentwhowasstudyingmedicinein Ahmedabad.Feeswasincreased overnight. This ledtoaseveredepressionforthe student who belonged to a poorfamilyand hisparentshad already toiled to get himadmitted inmedicalcollege. He committed suicide. This is a blot onGujarat, he said. The family of the student has not got any relief. Parents are runningfrompillar toposttolodge a complaint, butin vain.

Referringtotheallegationof the CM that thecentralgovt wasnot givingitpermissionto lay gas pipeline, hesaidthat he wasmisleadingand challenged theChiefMinistertodisclosedetails of Gujaratproposalofpipelinesent toDelhi. He said that as per therulesuch proposals were cleared byregulatorybodyand any proposal must satisfy the criteriasetup by the regulatory body. He said that there was noquestionof Cong’srefusalas no proposal was sent. Gohil said that CM, in fact, wanted his favoritebusinessmantomakemoneyout of the pipeline project.

Challenging Modi over hisremarksthatinjusticeis meted outtothestateby theCentreGohilsaidthatasperthe social-economicreview2011 placed in theStateAssemblyby thestategovernmentthe length ofnationalhighways reduced. AICCgeneralsecretaryMadhusudan Mistry gave details of thestategovernment’s policiesfortribal which have doneinjusticeandharmtothem. Hesaidthat the state government does not even bother to see that tribal, villagers, farmers, dalits and others are benefitted byvariousprogrammes ofCentralgovernment. Lakhs of rupees forchildand womendevelopmentgiven bycentrehave been wasted by CM for hisownpublicity. MLAs and largenumberof workers attended the workersconventionat Bhiloda and Himmatnagar.
